Looks like the former Iowa Stars have never been able to recover from the damage Tom Hicks caused when he renegged on their agreement.

http://www.kcci.com/news/19419098/detail.html

Unless they can establish an affiliation with another NHL club, they may have to lock the doors next season.

That makes sense.

Hicks dumped Iowa because they didn'y pay.

Iowa got a 2 year agreement with the Ducks, but they dumped Iowa because they didn't pay.

Hicks caused the Ice Bats to go out of business because he paid what they couldn't.

You lost your wife and dog because of Hicks.

You're BS crying is older than Pearl Harbor.

Is this documented somewhere? It seemed like Hicks dumped Iowa once he had Cedar Park in his pocket.

Or his hand in Cedar Park's pocket, depending on how you look at it.

But heck, breaking that contract must be peanuts to a guy who's defaulting on a half billion in loans he received.

No, it's not. Have you seen this woodchopper's other posts? They're equally uninformed.

Is that true? Yikes. Will the residents of Cedar Park be left holding the bag?

Dang Dawg - where you been lately? There were a number of recent stories about it. Here's an example.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123967866588416173.html

The gist of it, depending on your point of view, is either:
- These tough economic times have made it impossible to make a buck in the sports world, so these debtors need to ease up a bit.
- Hicks is loaded and is just trying to screw over the people who've loaned him money.

Yeah it seems to be well known that Hicks can't be trusted. I can't believe BatDog hadn't caught that part of the story.

You and Bat Dog are obsessed with Hicks. I know you both are better businessmen and more successsful then him. LOL. Once you make you're first 1, 10, 100 million dollars or more, then you can call him someone not to be trusted.

I forgot, you read an article so you know all the details.

Pathetic.

I guess I misunderstood. I thought you were saying Hicks screwing his investors was old news, which it was, and poking fun at Batdog for missing it. I was agreeing with you on all those things.

:angel Oh well. :what

I do have to admit some curiosity at someone who is a big fan of the CP Stars (which is fine of course) hanging around here and calling some of us obsessed. I certainly don't hang around the Stars board - I've peeked a few times before but I don't think I've ever registered to post. So I'd question your opinion as to who is obsessed, but whatever.

By the way, when you get a chance please post a link to an article where Hicks dumped Iowa because they owed him money. You know I like to read articles, and I'm sure you didn't just make that up out of thin air, right? TIA

I thought the Stars announced their upcoming move to Cedar Park and Iowa terminated the agreement.

I post in both places. This is where all the Bats' fans hang out (or fans of the former Bats). I was part of that crowd. But this particular forum IS for Texas Stars postings. I also post over on the Texas Stars board, 'cause that's my new team. Don't care about the owner; never cared with the Bats, until the fiasco of the first year at Chap. I got to know some of them too well while waiting for them to find me a new seat once my original seat was removed.

Just made my final payment on my Stars season tickets and can't wait. See ya there?

Yeah, Why would a Texas Stars fan hang out on Texas Stars fan board.

Do you have any clue where you are? :bang

Let's see.... I'm in a board started by Bats fans and still run by a Bats fan who as far as I know isn't a Stars STH yet. I guess I see this as an unofficial place to hang out mostly with ex-Bats folks. The Bats never had a fan board (at least not that I can remember), so people used CHL Underground and various other places to post over the years.

CP Stars fans DO have an official message board, though there doesn't seem to be much traffic (yet) for whatever reason. So people like me don't have another place to go to chat with others of fairly similar stories. You DO have another place you can hang out.

Not saying Stars fans should be banned or anything, just that if you take on a gloating tone it seems kind of low class to me. No biggie really.

So Texas Stars fans should not post on a Texas Stars chatboard.

That will be tough to beat for dumbest post of the year.

Wow! You paste what I actually said and then claim I said something I clearly didn't. Sweet!!

But given you lied about what Hicks did with Iowa and have failed to back up your claim with even a shred of evidence despite multiple requests to do so, lying about what I said is peanuts by comparison I suppose.

Here's how I remember the Iowa Stars deal coming down:

No more Iowa Stars
April 29, 2008, 8:46 pm

Despite a contract that ran through the 2009-2010 season, the AHL’s Iowa Stars announced last week that they have ended their affiliation agreement with the Dallas Stars and are seeking a new NHL team to provide players for them next season.

The team’s owners insist the move does not mean that the franchise is leaving Des Moines. Over the winter, the Dallas Stars disclosed that they were going to align with Austin, Texas, when that city completed construction of a new arena there. That hastened Iowa’s decision to terminate its relationship with Dallas.

The Iowa franchise will change its name, its logo and look for next season in an attempt to firmly establish itself in the Central Iowa market. The guess here is that the Minnesota Wild could very well be Iowa bound. Their AHL affiliate right now are the Houston Aeros.

See, Hicksstarsfan#1? This is how an informed and knowledgeable fan supports his claim. You're obviously new at this. Perhaps you should practice at the Hicks board for a while until you get comfortable. There's probably some stimulating "what color do you think our jerseys will be?" or "who is your favorite team?" threads you can get involved in.

Maybe you could even start a thread. How about "Do you think we will have a higher average attendance our first year than the Bats did their first year?" That should generate some interesting responses:

Response 1: "Hey guys, I'm really excited about the Stars. Are you?"

Response 2: "My favrit team is teh CoWbOys"

Response 3: "When's the next watch party?"

Response 4: "Green."

I feel bad for jlocke and cerebral assassin. It's going to be frustrating for you guys.

OK Moe,

First off this is not a Texas Stars chatboard. Unsportsmanlike Conduct is a CHL freeforum. It has a sub-forum that happens to be for the Texas Stars. We happen to be posting to that forum now.

Now coming into a forum that is dominated by Ice Bats fans and bad mouthing the former team is not going to win you or the Stars any friends. So why don't you go back to your AOL CHATBOARD :flip and tell your two year old buddies how you R0xx0r t3h W3bZ.

I think I hear your brother Ron calling you better catch up Moe.

Looks like there might be something to Anaheim ending their affiliation with Iowa over finances...

Anaheim Ducks end affiliation with Iowa Chops

Here's the pertinent part:

When the agreement between the Chops and Ducks was announced last June in Des Moines, Schlegel said an AHL franchise typically pays its parent NHL club between $700,000 and $1.4 million for players, coaches, and team personnel.

The Orange County Register reported Saturday the agreement was cut short because “the Chops did not meet their financial obligations.”

Schlegel declined to comment on that report, but said his company remains strong.
“As far as Schlegel Sports go and the Iowa Chops go, besides the news on Friday, we’re doing well,” Schlegel said.

Schlegel Sports, or any possible successive owner of the Chops, must adhere to a lease and non-relocation agreement with Polk County that mandates an AHL franchise remain in Des Moines through 2014.

If the Chops were unable to meet that requirement next season, Polk County officials could begin legal proceedings to collect $12.5 million in damages from Schlegel Sports. That penalty is specified in a 10-year contract that began in 2005 when the Iowa Stars debuted at Wells Fargo Arena.

Man, this forum has devolved into nothing but childishness.

Batdog, remember when you accused me of beating a dead horse? Holy shit, man, I didn't go on for a year beating that same horse.

If you really want to re-live the glory days, just go watch BUG play over at the Chap.

So, since I made one reference 8 months after my last one, are you saying that you are or aren't doing the same thing you accused me of?

The difference is, at least I knew what I was talking about when I was bitching. You are whining out of jealously, not anthing this person has done to you.

October 2007 to November 2008 is 8 months? The years just seem to fly by anymore, huh 97? And if you're claiming you only made one reference, I don't know what to tell ya.

Someone told me I didn't go far back enough:

I'll type this slow that even you can understand, Batdog. That post in November was the first I had discussed that crap in a long, long time. I don't know if it was 8 months exactly (I'm sure you will check, since you have no life and can go look it all up yourself), but I didn't really think of it since the Bats folded in early 2008. Sorry if that is news to you. Someone had to break it to you, though.

How did that "demanding your money back" thing work out for you, 97?

Oh wait, you didn't demand your money back, did you?

97 wrote:

Actually the difference is that you claim you're going to do something, but don't.

I've stated that I won't support Tom Hicks....and I won't.

Your inability to understand that distinction has nothing to do with how fast I typed it.

So does that mean owners and office staff should ignore any complaints from you? As long as you can buy season tickets and they are good for [s]all[/s] most of the home games, then nothing else matters? All the bitching about that Laredo game and whatever else was just in fun and you didn't really care how it turned out?

Disclaimer: I don't really care if Hicks is a dick or the CP officials are dumbasses, just poking fun at them when it seems warranted. I'm not buying season tickets because we were already missing too many freaking games as it was, even with the rink 5 mins away. I'll probably go to a few games here and there (like with the RR Express), so I'm not boycotting the new team or anything like that. We wouldn't be getting season tickets for the same reason even if it was the CP Ice Bats, so I'm sort of in the middle over all this stuff. I'm not going to live and die off whatever happens with this team - not that I did with the Bats either, as we mainly just went to games and didn't have personal relationships with players or any of that jazz - but I'm not really going to give much of a shit about them either. I'm just a casual fan now.

I think that's a fair question. First off, I wouldn't go back to the well after what happened. Now, in the end, I found out that it was Buch that was the guilty party on that deal, and, since he wasn't involved any more, I was okay with Sanders and the Bats (except I still felt as though they handled it very poorly).

But, if the Stars pulled that deal, I would just stop being a season ticket holder. I'd pay for a ticket when I wanted to go. The way I see it, you are doing the team a favor by being season ticket holders (when you know there will always be tickets available). If they break the deal with me, then I'll just be a walkup customer.

But, I can assure you, they will not pull that stunt. That just does not happen in professional sports - at least it does not happen with teams that intend to exist beyond that season. So, I am not worried.
