So has there been an official announcement that the Bats are no more? I don't want to put money down on season tickets with the Stars just to have Randy announce that they have found a place to play next year. Given a choice I would stick with my Bats.

Nothing I've seen that says they are "no more", but the announcement makes it plain that they won't be playing this upcoming season. I wouldn't really expect a comeback at this point.
From the Bats' Web site:
Even though we have spent exhaustive efforts for the past year to find a venue for the Austin ICE BATS to play in 2008-2009, we have been unsuccessful in locating an acceptable venue. We are therefore announcing that the Austin ICE BATS will be going 'Lights Out' for the upcoming hockey season.
There are several very interesting venues that are being explored but there is just not enough time to put together the resources to be able to play in 2008-2009. We will continue to explore different venues both in the Austin area as well as outside the area to play in the 2009-2010 season.
I guess anything is possible, but if they were losing money before, I don't see how they can play (again) in one of the available venues and make money while competing with the AHL playing in a brand new arena in the same market.

| So I heard a rumor over the weekend...and this is probably old news to most of you. Was it true that JB actually helped the demise of the Bats to bring in the Stars?

Last I heard re: the Bats relocating, was that Beaumont is/was the best bet for relocation. And that the reason why they're not playing there this year, is that they (the Bats and the Ford Park mgmt) where unable to come to an agreement prior to the CHL "deadline." Everything else I heard pointed to the Bats (most likely under a new name) playing in Beaumont for the 09-10 season. That new name will most likely be the moniker of the departed ECHL Texas Wildcatters. From what I was told the CHL said there wouldn't be a problem with two teams having Texas in their name, as their mascots would be different. Texas Wildcatters, Texas Brahmas.
I'm still trying to figure out why the CHL is putting a team in Allen, which is only 45 miles from where the Brahmas currently play, unless they're thinking to move the Brahmas out there. _________________ Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Sorry, but that's not the case. The Bats were on their way out even before JB bought the team. The city wanted them out of the Expo center and the Chap wanted them out of the Chap. If Randy could have saved them, I believe he would have. It's like keeping your old Aunt on life support even though you know there's no point. At some time, you have to let go.
If you want to place blame, and right now there's no point, then talk to the Mayor of Cedar Park and his city council. They had the power to put the Bats in the arena, not the Texas Stars, but they succumed to the bright lights of having an upper level team in town.
For me, it's over either way and I'm focusing on a new team because it's hockey which is always better than no hockey. _________________ Retired!

| I wasn't placing blame. Just repeating/spreading rumors. I reserved my seats for the Stars yesterday. I'm a hockey fan first. All of the behind-the-scenes BS I could care less about unless it is directly affecting me.
