Congrats to the U. of Delaware Blue Hens, who finished fourth in the ACHA National Championship Tournament (after being ranked 11th going into tournament play). The Hens defeated Oklahoma and Rhode Island before losing to Penn State.

Three Blue Hens were named to the ACHA Division I All-Tournament team.

Go Blue Hens!

And I guess it really is a (ahem) feather in the hat for the Yankee Doodles to beat OU in hockey. I'd be proud of that one.

The victory over Rhode Island is actually the one to be proud of....they were ranked #1 in the ACHA at one point in the season.

The U of D has beautiful facilities for hockey, and the program is experiencing a renaissance after a few difficult years...and a lot of world-class figure skaters train there now as well.

And alot of the top barrel racers in the world use our rodeo arena to practice. But they stll ain't "cowboys".

Be proud of 'em, counselor. It's just the rooster and the hen thing that got me laughing.

Because of Title IX. They're not a varsity team, they're entirely self-supported.

No, but if you've been a hockey fan long enough to remember who Tom Mees was, Tom and I were at one time the radio voices of the Fightin' Blue Hens hockey team on WXUD-FM. Tom later went on to become the principal NHL play-by-play man for ESPN. Sadly, Tom died in a tragic swimming pool accident back in the late '80s or early '90s.

UD hockey games were great fun back then. The team was financed in large part by the money that the public paid to skate on the rink, and so to maximize that revenue, they kept the rink open to the public on Friday nights until about 9 p.m., and then started the hockey games at 10 p.m....by which time most of the UD hockey fans had been at the pubs for a few hours....
