I was checking out the roster of the Chicago Wolves (Saturday's opponent) and saw a couple of familiar names; Chris Chelios and Manny Legace. Should be an interesting game.

Is Chicago where old Red Wings go to die?

Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. According to the league Web site, the Wolves are affiliated with the Atlanta Thrashers (Grand Rapids Griffins are the Detroit affiliate). So both these guys didn't get signed to the NHL and signed up with AHL teams?

Wonder if Shanny's considering a similar move? The Devils "didn't find a place for him" for this season. Or rather, they found him a place, but it wasn't on the top 3 lines.

Makes me sad that there's no Shanny in hockey anymore.

Here's a little more on the Chelios situation; guess he's just not ready to hang 'em up yet...

Here's a couple of notes on Shanny's retirement...

Nov 17 Shanahan has announced his retirement after 21 NHL seasons.

Recommendation: He didn't draw any significant interest after the Devils terminated his contract back in October. Shanahan finishes with 656 goals (11th all-time) and 1,354 points in 1,524 games. He's the only player in NHL history with 600 goals and 2,000 penalty minutes, a product of his scoring ability and power forward mentality. Shanahan will likely be selected to the Hall of Fame when he's eligible to do so in three years.
--RotoWire

Nov 17 Shanahan is retiring from the NHL.

Advice: After 21 seasons and an almost certain Hall of Fame career, the 40-year-old forward announced Wednesday that he wouldn't play again. After going through training camp with the New Jersey Devils, the team he spent his final season with, he and the club mutually parted unexpectedly shortly before opening night of the season. That move came one day after Shanahan, who scored 656 career goals, was told there was no spot for him on the Devils' top three lines.
