Rivet Rescues Two People In Mexico

PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO- What started off as a relaxing day swimming with friends in the Pacific Ocean, turned out to be a heroic day for the Laredo Bucks Adam Rivet last Thursday.

As Rivet was swimming in the ocean, he noticed a jet ski flip over on top of a married couple. The man got out from under the jet ski, but the woman was trapped and struggling to stay a float in the deeper part of the water. Rivet quickly swam to the woman and pulled her out of the water, and led her to safety.

“I just wanted to make sure that she was ok, it looked worse than it actually was”, Rivet said. “She was distraught and I tried to calm her down, once she realized that she was ok, she calmed down”.

“Adam wouldn’t want any attention at all from this story, but I feel that he deserves a lot of credit for doing what he did. It was a very heroic effort”, said Bucks head coach and general manger Terry Ruskowski, who was there in Mexico that day as well.

About three hours after Rivet’s first resue mission, he saw an eight-year old boy caught in a huge wave of a rip tide. The boy was stuggling to stay above water, and was in danger of being swept away. Rivet swam to the boy and picked up out of the tide, and helped him to safety.

“The little guy was scared out of his mind, he thought he was going to drown there in the ocean”, Rivet said. “I just wanted to make sure that he knew he was not in danger”.

“To rescue one person in your life is very rare, but to rescue two people in a span of three or four hours is amazing”, Ruskowski commented. “Adam did a great thing that day, I’m very proud of him”.

“I did what every person would do in those situations, that’s all”, Rivet humbly said.

Ruskowski, Rivet, and several other Bucks players were in Puerto Vallarta attending Serge Dube’s wedding.

Rivet, a 2007 All-Star and a finalist for the 2008 Most Outstanding Defenseman, has spent the last three seasons with the Bucks.

The Bucks will start their seventh CHL season on October 17th. The complete 2008-09 schedule is expected to be released soon.

Kudos to Rivet....But I gotta question....

Ruskowski and Rivet in Puerto Vallarta at the same time....is this one of those "quality of life" things I keep hearing about in certain CHL markets?

They and others were there for Serge Dube's wedding. Either his wife is loaded or he saved a lot of money from his 11 games in England and his 3 in the AHL. ;-)

Seriously though, it was a cool story.

Maybe he saved a bunch of money on his car insurance. (Probably by not telling them he lives and works in Laredo.)

My first thought also. Where does a double A player not employed during the summer afford that?
