Jackalopes Hire New Director of Communications & Broadcasting

(Odessa, TX) – The Odessa Jackalopes of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday the hiring of Brien Rea as the team’s new Director of Communications and Broadcasting. Rea (pronounced Ray), joins the Jackalopes after spending last season in the same capacity with the CHL’s Austin Ice Bats.
“We’re excited about having Brien become the new voice of the Jackalopes,” said Odessa General Manager Joe Clark. “He has big shoes to fill, but everyone I talked with around the CHL went to bat for him. Brien’s young, energetic and has a good call. He has his own style, and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
Rea, 25, will become only the second play-by-play announcer in Jacks’ history. He replaces Bob Hards, who called games from the team’s inception in 1997. Clark said Rea, who will also take over duties of handling the team’s website, beat out more than 75 other applicants for the job.
“There were some very good people hoping to get a crack at this, but Brien’s professionalism and work ethic stood out,” Clark said. “Above and beyond his skills in the booth and knowledge of the CHL, the fact that we will now have someone in-house to handle our website was vitally important to our organization.”
Rea, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, is a 2005 graduate of Lake Forest College in Chicago. Along with his play-by-play experience in the CHL, he worked in his hometown calling baseball, basketball and arena football games before moving to Austin.
