I voted to send it to the HOF.
Didn't Keith Olbermann destroy that baseball that a fan interfered with during a Cubs playoff game a few years ago? I thought that was a pretty funny gag, but I wouldn't shoot this baseball into space, or deface it. I'd just send it to Cooperstown. Let people spit on the glass case if that's what they want to do.
Have you noticed how much money Hank Aaron has been raking in this year? I think he's having his best season ever. :)

I personally like the branding idea. I mean if Roger Maris was in there with an asterisk, surely Bonds' 756 ball should have one on it.
Have you seen Bonds' comments? He's getting all butt hurt. Imagine that.

What was Roger Maris in there with an Asterisk for?
Personally I voted to brand in, but then again I wish the sportsnews people wouldn't have paid it as much attention. Baseball can't get things under control because if they do they will stop getting the attention they need. Any press is good advertising.
Take a look at hockey, attendence always seem to go up after a scandal, Player lockouts not counting as a scandal that was mostly viewed as just greed. Hockey doesn't have enough scandals to get alot of free press.

Brand it. Sure it should be in the HoF, but Bonds acheivement is tainted. But keep in mind the taint gives the history a much richer feel.
I'm wierd that way. I like history, but I like hearing about the failings, foibles & weaknesses of historical figures more than about how & why they were so great.

Maris had the asterisk next to his Single Season home run record of 61. When he broke the Babe's record, the baseball purists decided that they would acknowledge that he broke Babe's record, but with an asterisk next to it. I believe the reasoning behind the asterisk was that Maris had more games in which to tie or break the record, than Ruth had to set the record.
I voted for the brand myself.

| Ok then I am glad I vote the way I did. Maris didn't deserve an asterisk, maybe Babe needed a record with an asterisk saying he was the only one to do this with this few games.

Nah, Marris deserved the asterisk. We measure current performance against the greatness that has gone before, not the other way around, because that which has gone before sets the benchmark.

True, but the Babe is a name to conjure with. Even folks who know squat for baseball know (or at least have a foggy notion) who Babe Ruth was (or at least have heard the name). A true icon.
