Oilers Complete Austin Swap
Receive Rights To Virtue, Holmgren
The Tulsa Oilers have acquired the Central Hockey League playing rights to defensemen Terry Virtue and Adam Holmgren from the Austin Ice Bats. This completes a trade between the two teams in September of 2006, in which the Oilers received future considerations.
Head coach Butch Kaebel made the announcement at the Oilers Stanley Cup watch party on Monday night.
Virtue, a 36-year-old defenseman began his professional career in 1991-92.
His career includes extensive experience in the American Hockey League, and he has played in 5 NHL games. Last season with Austin, the six-foot, 195-pound blueliner had a total of 10 goals and 28 assists while splitting time between Austin and the Binghamton Senators of the AHL.
Holmgren, 26-years old just completed his second pro season, both with the Ice Bats. The 6-foot, 205-pounder had two goals and four assists with 20 penalty minutes in 44 games for Austin last season. He is the nephew of Philadelphia Flyers assistant general manager Paul Holmgren.
