"encouraged the wearing of sombreros"

Huh? I don't recall that.

"Games were shown on local television."

The very first game was. Wasn't that the only one?

Good article in general though.

Well, there were two guys who always wore sombreros. I think there's a picture of them in my '97 TM piece actually.

I suppose this goes without saying when a team's attendance drops from 5000 to 1000, but it still amazes me to think of all the die-hards and regulars from back then who stopped coming to games, even as soon as '99 (of course in '99, some people had their reasons).

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that year when the restrooms were outside put a real damper on attendance that never recovered.

You're right about the porta-potties, bk. That was truly the beginning of the end.

Geez, were the fans as ignorant as they were depicted in that article?

Nice to see some big time exposure now that it doesn't matter anymore, but the article seems to be built on hyperbole more than the bats were built on showmanship.

I was only around from 2000 on so maybe I missed alot of the barnstorming, but I never got the sense that, at least while the clock was running, it was about showmanship. Minor leage anything is going to have to have a certain amount of showmanship, but outside of maybe Dallas Anderson I rarely saw gratuitous showmanship on the ice. Hell, watch Hank Jr offer up some gawd awful intro on Monday Night Football or Chad Johnson doing some touchdown celebration and tell me the NFL isn't built on showmanship.

As far as

Quote:
but the Ice Bats were only able to draw 600 to 800 fans to their games.

I know there weren't the announced 1900 at games, but surely there were more than 800 at most weekend games.

They televised the first game and the All-Star game.
As for "showmanship" and labeling Dallas Anderson as the only one then someone is forgetting Pisiak.
