gorman is terrible.
i think its time to find some NEW talent.
or at least give dolson a shot.
“The book” says it; and the Jackalopes believe it. Championship hockey begins between the pipes. Through a decade “on ice,” one name dominates the franchise’s all-time goaltending record book, and the team today announced the goaltender Jacks fans have come to know as “Flash” will be back between the pipes when the club begins a new decade of hockey.
All-star goaltender Mike Gorman has re-signed with the club and will be back with the Jackalopes for the 2007-08 Central Hockey League season.
Announced CHL Player Signings for 2007-2008
“Goaltending is critical to our success,” said co-owner Rick Gasser. “In Mike Gorman, we have a goalie who is among the CHL’s elite; someone who gives us the opportunity to win each and every time he’s in net. Mike has the ability to dominate a game … he’s a proven winner and been a major part of this franchise.”
Gorman is both a three-time CHL All-Star … a three-time Jackalopes team Most Valuable Player … and was the winner of the CHL’s Most Outstanding Goaltender Award in 2001-02.
The 27-year-old native of Nepean (nup-EE-uhn), Ontario will enter his eighth professional season, most of that time spent in a Jackalopes sweater.
He came to the Jacks in 2001-02, following record-setting goaltender Grant Sjerven (SHUR-vuhn). While he arrived something of an “unknown quantity,” Gorman quickly established himself as one of the league’s top net minders, being named the CHL’s top goalie in his first season with the club.
The 2001-02 season was also the first of “Gormy’s” three all-star selections. He was also named to the CHL All-Star Game in 2002-03 and again in 2005-06, when he was also a finalist for the CHL’s Most Outstanding Goaltender Award and was named the league’s second-best goaltender in the annual “Best of the Best” poll.
He is also a three-time Jackalopes MVP, sharing the honor with (forward) Trevor Allman in 2001-02 and (defenseman) Scott Hillman the following season. He was named sole winner of the MVP honor last season.
Following a three-year junior career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Gorman spent his rookie professional season with the Lake Charles (LA) Ice Pirates of the WPHL. In a strange and ironic “twist,” he was in net for the Ice Pirates … against the Jacks … in January of 2001, when the Lake Charles arena had to be evacuated due to a bomb threat.
Mike played briefly in the United Hockey League (UHL), opening the 2003-04 season with Flint. Due to injury, he was limited to just three starts for the Generals, and soon decided the UHL was not where he wanted to be. He returned to the Jacks in December of that season. Mike, his wife, Mary, and son Riley now make Odessa their full-time home.
“I think Mike feels very much at home here, both on and off the ice.” Gasser said. “That can be a very important factor in Mike’s success and that of the team. It’s also important to say that he’s at an age where a lot of goaltenders hit their peak.”
Gorman, who turns 28 in December, has also, at times, carried a huge work load for the Jacks. His records include a franchise mark of 25 consecutive games … and 1,519 consecutive minutes … in net. During that stretch, he also set a franchise record, recording three consecutive shutouts and 184 minutes, 59-seconds of shutout hockey overall.
Gorman’s signing brings the number of players under contract with the Jackalopes for the upcoming season to four, including defenseman Mario Joly (pronounced “jolly”) and the return of forwards Sebastien Thinel (tuh-NELL) and Dominic Leveille (DAW-muh-nick luh-vie-YAY). All four have all-star caliber résumés.
“Each of our first players (signed for the 2007-08 season) is an all-star,” Gasser said. “A goalie and defensemen and a pair of forwards. It’s just the start, but we think that’s a great foundation in building a championship contender.” Especially if “the book” is correct … about goaltenders and winning hockey games, that is. _________________ Gorillas Hockey.

Dolson has been given a shot. He can't stay healthy!!! Has injured both ACLs the last two seasons. He had major surgery on one of them this summer. Rumor has it he is being traded to Arizona,Youngstown or Laredo. Gormz is a warrior in the true sense as far as hockey. He is an ironman in the net. Check how many games he has had to play consecutivley do to Dolson not being able to stay healthy. That alone will wear down any goalie, that and the ole' defenseman the Jacks have signed the last four seasons. But that to is about to change!! With the signing of Joly, the rights to Jordan Little, and the rumor of another big defenseman to be announced soon, the Jacks blueline is going to be huge. All three mentioned above stand 6'4". Your comment about Gorman shows you really do not know much about Jackalopes hockey!!! I know you've seen him play at least 6 times a year but that does not mean you understand what has really been taking place! _________________ Go Hard or Go Home!!!
