Old time hockey returns to Youngstown Friday night at the Chevy Centre. The Hanson Brothers will be "puttin' on the foil" as the Hounds take on the Mempiss RiverEunuchs. Tape up your black horn rims and join the action.

bhKf,

Sorry to have offended thee, O great arbiter of weak and stupid.
I guess I was trying for a clever way of describing the testicularly challenged team that was blown out at home by the Rocky Mt Rage. Can you say "Ball-less"??? I knew you could.

JoeH - you just have to be careful when you throw 9th grade level words around here...next time just keep it simple....MUDBUNGS, DIRTBAGS, FARTFACES, BUTTHEADS...you know...at a 3rd grade level.

Point well-taken, Pucknut.

Been dying to ask you, why the Hammer? My first hockey sweater had a big #8. Was not too popular my only visit to Maple Leaf Garden. All the Tiger Williams groupies were put off by my orange & black.

One of the biggest misconceptions about hockey is the goon-ish approach to the sport...especially in the 60's and 70's NHL...and so many critics think the "new" NHL is so much better.....BULLSHIT!! There's something to be said about the 'bullies' of that era of hockey, as they were a far cry from the the one-dimensional fighters of the 21st century NHL. Hell, the new NHL is just about 100% one-dimensional players (scorers with no defense skills, fighters who can't skate or shoot, etc).

Guys like Schultz and Tiger were a solid combination of toughness and skill, who were not only "handling business", but they were scoring goals as well. Both had 5 or more 30+ point season, while spending an abundance of time in the box. Today's (and yesterday's) enforcers do not carry the same level of play:

Tie Domi - 1 - 30+ point season in 14 pro years
Donald Brashear - highest point total in 1 season was 28 (16 pts avg)
Colton Orr - highest point total is 9 points in a season

Now that I have gotten my 4 cents in on that....Using the Hammer as my avatar is my way of showing respect to the TRUE enforcers of the game...and my signature/quote...that's jsut a reminder of a thought provoking playing strategy.

Again, sorry about the above-written book on the topic...I know you weren't looking for that in depth of an answer.

Pucknut,
Liked the viewpoint in your post. Back then enforcers skated regular shifts, were expected to play strong D and contribute offensively. No specialists who saw a couple shifts a game. Too many today are like closers in baseball, brought in for 2/3 inning.

Exactly!! Even though they weren't winning any Ross or Hart Trophies (or Lady Byng's), they served a greater purpose than to protect & defend the team's best players. Anymore, they are either bodyguards or instigators.

As much as I like Dallas Anderson for his toughness, he contributes little to the Offensive or Defensive game. I think that with some work, he could be a valuable asset to the Hounds Powerplay...what better goalie screen than a 6'6" monster setting up in front of the net.

Maslonka, on the other hand, is a great defensive player, on top of being a tough guy that does his share of intimidating and enforcement.

I'm satisfied because my HOUNDS got 2 points!

It's not hard to do the math and realize that the #4 playoff seed is the best the Hounds can work towards at this point in the season...so the RiverKinks and MudBungs battle for #1 in the NE Div. is no longer a concern. What can I say...I'm an equal opportunity hater!!

On a side note...Dannyboy will now be called MILDfong, as he could be a Lady Byng winner when compared to the shady, trashy play of Sheldon Wenzel of Memphis...at least Mildfong will do his dirty deeds face to face.

LMAO, I do believe you are beginning to see the light pucker! winking:

Now be a good boy and don't let memphis get that point. We have some makeup work to do on our end and would appreciate the assist.

We'll see what we can do...with Sterling nearing self-destruct mode...we may be able to put a more solid 2 in the points column tonight.

How bad does Sterling have to feel about the loss...giving up a SO goal to a D-man that had 0 Goals and 4 Assists berfore last night...enough to try and break his stick on the bench before leaving the ice.
