Empty seats have a habit of breeding more empty seats, Ask Laredo and Corpus.

wow: now this is why I have avoided this site for six months/extremely discouraging discourse!
where is the love?
why all the haters?
who would give away $100 for one whole year?
if there are over 6K seats to choose from it seems like one could wait until sometime in 2009 to start filling the pockets of the 'bat' replacements and still get a suitable location - we are not that picky and never sit on the glass/most likely will not go to more than one game the first season
our plan is to go to out of town CHL games>
unless the strike issue ruins the whole season
never mind just read the rajan blog >it is over
not to mention the idea of dealing with JB must be great for some people and not so great for others
anyway y'all carry on
peace, love & understanding

That's what I was getting at. I can see them getting close to filling 5000 with good marketing, etc, but 6800 I don't see happening. _________________ Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

They'd make more money if they had 5,000 people who wanted 4,000 seats. _________________ NHrow7 (1996-2006)

That's exactly what I was saying VLP. Of course if demand was greater than supply, that would be good for the seller. But since supply is likely going to be greater than demand, the buyers will be in a better position.
This may surprise some people, but I really don't care if Hicks doesn't make a pile of cash off of this team. I doubt that he is planning on having huge returns from this team, either, so it should work out okay.

Its amazing how he can own one pro franchise that is successful, yet the other pro franchise blows monkey balls.
From what I've heard in the past, Hicks really doesn't stick his nose in too much with the Stars day-to-day (player personnel) buisness. Yet with the Rangers, Hicks was trying to play the role of Al Davis/George (& Hank) Stienbrenner until recently. That ball club wasn't in too bad of a shape when he bought it from Dubya, now its pretty much the laughing stock of the league. We'll see if ol Nolan can right the ship.
I wish there were a way for the Texas Stars to succeed, while Tom Hicks fails....that way the demise of the Bats wouldn't be all for naught. I believe there are still talks of relocating the Austin franchise to Beaumont for the 09-10 season. They were very close to getting the job done for this season, yet they ran out of time.
I'm sure that Hicks will love the fact that his travel expenses for call-ups, and rehab stints will go way down come 2009. A short drive up/down 35 vs a plane ride from Iowa. _________________ Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

The failures of the Rangers are pretty frustrating. I'm not sure who to blame on some of the moves they made. Obviously, Chan Ho was a huge mistake. But it sure seems like they have a lot of guys that can't pitch a lick for them, yet succeed everywhere else.
Maybe their pitching coaches have just been crap. I heard from a guy that played for him that Orel Hershiser was terrible. I don't know about the rest of them.

Orel seemed like a good pick at the beginning, with his career as a player and all. but it just goes to show that a good/great player doesn't always make a good coach. They've been slowly improving since the Empty Golf Shirt (John Hart), but they're pitching has stayed horribly dreadful. They've gone the way of the Yankees with pitching, they keep trying to buy it instead of developing it. Hart and Hicks did their damned best to destroy that team (unintentionally), with signings such as A-Fraud, Chan-Ho, etc. I'm still kinda pissed at the Rangers (maybe it was Nolan's decision) for waiving a guy I went to high school with. This guy killed the Rangers when he was with Cleveland and Seattle.
Hicks seems to have learned his leason early with hockey (player) decisions, and leaves that to the guys that know a thing or two about hockey. Too bad it took him so long to learn that lesson with baseball. _________________ Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Umm....hello? Philip Hughes? Joba Chamberlain? Ian Kennedy?
If anything they had to keep buying pitchers because their homegrown pitchers kept going on the DL. _________________ NHrow7 (1996-2006)

I'm sure the Yankees will avoid bidding on Sabathia because they have Hughes, Chamberlain, and Kennedy.
The Yankee way is still the Yankee way.

Baseball is not hockey, boys.
I understand why you got off topic (Hicks) but try to control yourselves in the future.

Come on. We were talking about how Hicks has learned how to keep his nose outta hockey, yet just learned in the last year or so to keep it outta baseball.
We're not starting a thread about the purity of the game, whether or not the DH should still be used, or how great it is to see another postseason without the Yankmees.
Its hockey related in a red-headed bastard step-child sorta way. _________________ Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Baseball sucks. The players are all crooked cry baby pussies. They all cheat and the record books are all tainted and should be burned.
